“Congress passed Republic Act 8291 that excluded those in the armed and public safety services, including the Philippine National Police uniformed personnel, from the compulsory membership with the GSIS effective June 24, 1997. The families of deceased policemen no longer received insurance benefits from the GSIS. Since there was no alternative option given, providing a decent burial for the deceased comrade in arm was made through the sympathy of others. As a remedy, the PNP took the decisive step to address the insurance needs of its men and they created the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc.”.
This law removed the uniformed members of the PNP, AFP, BJMP and BFP of their compulsory membership from GSIS. No alternative was provided for the PNP personnel for their life and social security protection.
The conditions leading to the establishment of PSMBFI, including its vision, mission, activities, and plans are very much connected to the morale and welfare of the PNP personnel. PSMBFI provides insurance protection and an investment plan that guarantees life insurance and disability benefits.
PSMBFI provides realistic insurance benefits that members’ contributions can afford. Less complicated financial services are also offered to the PNP personnel, PNPA cadets, public safety practitioners, and their beneficiaries.
Our Vision
“A progressive and stable mutual benefit association extending benefits and services that are highly-responsive to the needs of the members, through a competent, committed, trustworthy, and service-oriented workforce.”
Our Mission
The mission of PSMBFI is to:
- Embark on projects that will improve mutual assistance and foster camaraderie among members.
- Provide timely financial aid and comfort to public safety practitioners and their families in cases of necessity, disability or loss, unemployment, and old age.
- Enhance the work environment that will further develop competency, commitment, and integrity among its members.
