The importance of PSMBFI insurance

The uniformed personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) face various risks as they serve and protect the community. Thousands have lost their lives during police operations, while others passed away due to sickness and accident. Policemen and policewomen are protected by a dependable insurance provider - the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc.

The families of PSMBFI members are provided with assistance in times of grief. The cash advance of the insurance claim is immediately processed and given to the beneficiaries the soonest possible time and at minimal requirements. While the complete amount of insurance claim is received by the beneficiaries after the completion of all documentary requirements.

This year, there are PSMBFI members who passed away due to various causes and their beneficiaries were assisted by the Fund.

PSInsp Abelardo M Cabrela, Chief of Police of the Libertad Municipal Station in Antique, PRO 6 was shot in his home last April 28, 2011. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he passed away while being treated.

SPO1 Antonio C Illut of the Santa Fe Police Station, Cebu PRO 7 was on duty as station Admin PNCO when he suddenly collapsed last April 26, 2011. He was immediately brought to the Bantayan District Hospital where he died of severe pneumonia and diabetes mellitus.

PSInsp Arlene L Basilio, a section chief of the AVSEGROUP had complications from her pregnancy

which resulted to septic shock. She was brought to the hospital on June 10, 2011 but passed away after 12 days.

SPO3 Edwin T Faypon of the 2nd Regional Public Safety Battalion in Santiago City, Isabela PRO 2 was riding his motorcycle along Maharlika Highway on July 31, 2011 when a drunk driver rammed his motorcycle into the PNCO’s vehicle. SPO3 Faypon died as a result of massive head and internal trauma.

PO1 Mudzil A Balawag and other operatives of the NCRPO Intelligence Operations Unit conducted police operation last August 10, 2011 in Makati City against the notorious Onad Carjacking Group. A shoot-out ensued, hitting PO1 Balawag in the chest. The PNCO died while undergoing surgery at a hospital.

PSInsp Romulo D Paza of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, PRO 10 was playing basketball last August 21, 2011 when he suddenly collapsed and died of myocardial infarction.

PO1 Jorge F Sobrevilla, a police recruit of PRO 11, was conducting checkpoint operation as part of the Field Training Program (FTP) on September 6, 2011 along Barangay Sta. Maria road when a motorcycle evaded the said checkpoint. PO1 Sobrevilla and a companion ran after the fleeing men but were later fired upon causing the death of the PNCO.

The insurance claim received by their beneficiaries may not be enough to lessen the grief of losing a loved one. However, the money can be used to pay for the funeral, other expenses that were incurred, and be able to face life anew

 

PSMBFI conducts Outreach Program for PNP Personnel affected by typhoons

The Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc. is committed to look after the welfare of its members, especially in times of need. When typhoons hit the country, many provinces were left severely affected.

Thus, as part of the Fund’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program, an outreach program was conducted last October 25 to 26, 2011. PSMBFI teams went to various police stations in Central Luzon to distribute grocery bags to affected PNP Personnel. Visited were the Bulacan PS, Obando PS, Hagonoy PS, Paombong PS, Masantol PS, Calumpit PS, Apalit PS, Minalin PS, Mexico PS, San Simon PS, San Luis PS, Candaba PS, Sta. Ana PS, Arayat PS, and Cabiao PS.

Information Campaign conducted among the graduating PNPA Cadets

The Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc. conducted an information campaign at the PCAI Hall of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) at Silang, Cavite last November 9, 2011. The attendees were from the graduating Sinag-Tala Class of 2012.

PSMBFI Marketing Manager, PSSupt Frederick V Oconer (Ret) discussed with the graduating class the corporate history, various insurance plans, and benefits of being a PSMBFI member. Those interested to become PSMBFI members filled-out the Membership Application Form (MAF) in preparation for their work as police inspectors once the enter the Philippine National Police.

 

PNPA cadets from the Sinag-Tala Class 2012 are lectured on PSMBFI benefits and services.

 

PSMBFI sponsors the free showing of the “Pacquiao versus Marquez III” boxing bout.

The Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc.  sponsored the simultaneous live telecast of the “Pacuiao vs Marquez III” boxing bout last November 13,2011. Admission was free for PSMBFI members and their family.

The bout was shown at the Multi-Purpose Center of Camp Crame, National Capital Region Training School (NCRPO), gymnasium of the Philippine National Training Institute (PRO 4A), Multi-Purpose Hall of Camp Simeon Ola (PRO 5), Multi-Purpose Hall of Camp Martin Delgado (PRO 6), Caboboy Multi-Purpose Hall of Camp Kangleon (PRO 8), covered court of Camp Alagar (PRO 10), and Log Cabin of Camp Bado Dangwa (PRO COR).

Chief,PNP and PSMBFI Chairman PDG Nicanor A Bartolome and other PNP key officers joined PSMBFI members to watch the fight at the Multi-Purpose Center in Camp Crame. This activity is part of the Fund’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programs and a way of thanking members for their continuous trust and support.

 

 

The new PO1 recruits are now members of PSMBFI

Information and membership campaigns were conducted among the new PO1 recruits.

 

The new police recruits of the Philippine National Police (PNP) simultaneously took their oath last November 4, 2011. To ensure that they have insurance protection before they are sent off to the Training Schools, teams from the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, Inc. went to all Police Regional Offices (PROs) to conduct information and membership campaign.

Police recruits immediately become members of PSMBFI after signing the Membership Application Form (MAF) and Authority to Deduct (ATD) form. The total amount of insurance coverage of a PO1 recruit is P278,230.42, being members of the Equity Plan (EP), and enrolled with the Basic Group Term Plan (BGTP), Burial Assistance Benefit (BAB), and the mandatory Special Group Term Insurance (SGTI). Double indemnity is given to the beneficiaries if death is caused by accident.

In recent years, there were police recruits who died during training. This year is of no exception. One died of hemorrhagic pancreatitis in PRO 5 but he was not able to fill out the MAF. Another casualty was PO1 Sheenley B Ibañez of PRO 10 who died of cardiac arrest. Since she was able to fill-out the MAF and already considered as a member of PSMBFI, her family received the cash advance of insurance claims.

The Fund extends its gratitude to the men and women of the PNP, most especially the DPRM officers and personnel, the Regional Directors, the Chiefs of the Regional Personnel Human Resource Doctrine Division (R1s), CESPO, the RESPOs, other top PNCOs, and everyone who supported the PSMBFI teams during the information campaign.
