PSMBFI is a reliable insurance provider
Unfortunately, ambush incidents transpired last August 21, 2010. At Catarman, Northern Samar. PNP personnel were fired upon by alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) after their vehicle hit a landmine. Those killed were PSInsp Nicasio L San Antonio, Deputy Chief of Police of the Catarman Municipal Police Station; SPO3 Junito T Julio, SPO1 Juancho M Esteron, PO2 Marlon G Estremera, PO2
Marcial E Velarde, PO2 Rodel M Balag, PO1 Edgar C Catunhay, and PO1 Arnil O Saludario.
Similarly, PSInsp Christopher P Mazo, Chief of Police of Liangga MPS, in Surigao del Sur was killed in an encounter with NPA rebels. Upon learning these incidents, PSMBFI immediately processed the cash advance of the insurance claim and the KIA Financial Assistance.
Last August 24, 2010, GM/COO Atty. Washington M Javier personally handed over the cash advance check and condoled with the family of PSInsp Mazo at Butuan City. Meanwhile, Marketing Manager, PSSupt Frederick V Oconer (Ret), proceeded to Camarines Sur to give the cash advance check to the family of the late PSInsp San Antonio, and then to Catarman, Northern Samar to hand over the cash advance checks to the family of the other casualties. PSMBFI is extending the necessary assistance to the bereaved families so that the full amount of insurance claim may be given the soonest possible time.
It is also the commitment of PSMBFI to ensure that the PNP recruits have insurance protection at the onset of their training wherein they will undergo physically demanding exercises. Information and membership campaigns are conducted nationwide to discuss the benefits and services which members
receive from the Fund. The insurance protection of PO1 recruits and lateral entrants automatically starts after they have filled-out and signed the Membership Application Form (MAF) and the Authority to Deduct
(ATD), even without deduction of the first premium payment. In case of death after taking their oath, the beneficiaries will recieve their insurance benefits.
While the accidental disability benefit is also given to members who suffer total permanent loss or partial permanent loss as a result of accident. These benefits assure them of insurance protection as they undergo training.
In the recent years, a number of recruits have lost their lives while undergoing training. This year is no exception as four CY 2010 recruits died after taking their oath last July 1, 2010. PO1 Wilfredo B Castillo Jr, of PRO 8, died of vehicular accident last July 3, 2010. He was driving his motorcycle when it rammed on a motorcab that made a sudden stop. Since the cause of death was accident, his family will
receive double the amount of the basic insurance coverage. PO1 Niel E Nieves of PRO 3, died of bacterial meningitis last July 4, 2010. PO1 Allan Clint M Masauding of PRO 11, died of cardiac arrest last July 16, 2010 while jogging at the RTS oval. PO1 Rosemarie P Fajardo of PRO 5, died of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis last August 12, 2010. Based on reports, PO1 Fajardo after waking up, put on and fixed her shoes, slept on her bed again and never woke up. The cash advance of insurance
claim was given to their families and the full amount of insurance coverage will be given when all the required documents have been submitted to our office.
With the risks that go with police training, PNP recruits are constantly assured of insurance protection from PSMBFI.
