Protection for all Police Recruits!
“ The insurance protection of PO1 recruits and lateral entrants automatically starts after they have filled-out and signed the Membership Application Form (MAF) and Authority to Deduct (ATD). This is to assure them of insurance protection while undergoing training.”
In the recent years, a number of recruits have lost their lives while undergoing training. This year is no exception whereby four CY 2010 recruits died after taking their oath last July 1, 2010.
At PRO 3, PO1 Niel E Nieves died of bacterial meningitis last July 4, 2010. His beneficiaries are entitled to receive from PSMBFI the full amount of insurance coverage of P237,350.83, as he was able to accomplish his Membership Application Form with PSMBFI. This is regardless of paying his first monthly contribution. Hence, the partial payment in the form of cash advance of P71,000.00 was given to his family.
The insurance benefit check was personally delivered to the family who expressed their gratefulness to the PNP for being able to take good care of its recruits and to PSMBFI for its concern to the welfare of its members and their family.
At PRO 8, a recruit lost his life in a vehicular accident last July 3, 2010. PO1 Wilfredo B Castillo Jr was driving his motorcycle when it rammed on a motorcab that made a sudden stop to pick up a passenger on the roadway. As a result, P01 Castillo sustained serious head and body injuries.
PSMBFI immediately processed the cash advance in the amount of P71,000.00. The full amount of insurance claim is P451,701.66 since the cause of death was accident, hence considered double indemnity.
PO1 Allan Clint M Masauding of PRO 11 died of cardiac arrest last July 16, 2010 while jogging at the RTS oval. His family received the cash advance of P71,000.00 which form part of the total insurance coverage of P237,350.83.
Another is PO1 Rosemarie P Fajardo of PRO 5 who died of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis last August 12, 2010 whereby based on reports, PO1 Fajardo after waking up, fixed herself up but slept again and never woke up. Her family received the cash advance of P71,000.00 which form part of the total insurance coverage of P257,816.90.
With the risks that go with police training, PNP recruits are constantly assured of insurance protection from PSMBFI.
It is the commitment of PSMBFI to ensure that the PNP recruits have insurance protection at the onset of their training wherein they will undergo physically demanding exercises.
Other PNP recruits who died while in training and their families received insurance claim from PSMBFI:
- In 2005, PO1 Benjamin dela Cruz (PRO 8) was hit by a stray bullet in the head while undergoing militaristic training.
- In 2006, PO1 Bryan Bagadiong (PRO 3) died of heart failure.
- In 2007, Ronald Paglingayen (PRO 1) succumbed to leptospirosis.
- In 2008, PO1 Basir Mutaal (PRO ARMM) died of cardiac arrest due to heat stroke.
- In 2009, PO1 Michael Dante (PRO 8) died of vehicular accident.
However, in 2007 PO1 Exan Gandamra of PRO-ARMM was not able to signify membership with PSMBFI and died after reception. His family did not receive insurance benefit from PSMBFI.
